An outfit can make a photo priceless! I say simple shmimple, get all decked out! Layer, layer, layer with differnt textures, like denim, sweaters, or corduroy; they photograph beautifully. I love love love bright colors, but any color will do. For group photos, try to coordinate colors and styles, but everyone does NOT need to be the same. Newborns and babies photograph best in their birthday suits. Hats are a great accessory, and can add personality. Love bare feet, or no shirt on little boys. Dress children in anything that's them- even if that's Superman p.j's or a wings of a fairy!
